Does Debt Ever End?

Some people walk around with debt for their entire adult lives. In fact, many of the people you pass by every day do it. They are the big spenders in the flashy cars and the spendthrifts huddled over their coupons at the supermarket. So many people with so many lifestyles walk around in debt for decades that it can really make you wonder.

Does debt ever end?

You Know The Truth

You know that debt ends. You hear about it in triumphant news stories. People who were once drowning in debt found their way out through careful planning or, occasionally, through dumb luck. The point is that people do find their way out.

So if you know that then what’s your real question? Your real question isn’t about people. It’s about you. You want to know if your debt will ever end. Not anyone else’s debt. Your debt.

You may be sick of the word and wishing whoever it was who assigned names to unpleasant circumstances hadn’t chosen a word that sounds so fast and final, like the action of a guillotine. You’re discouraged because you’ve been trying so long to get rid of your debt and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Or you have yet to start working to rid yourself of it and the idea of trying to do anything feels overwhelming even before you start.

Will Your Life End Before Your Debt Does?

In a way, your life will have to end before you will be set free from your financial woes. Maybe it would be better to say your lifestyle will change but, in truth, this will be the end of one life for you and the beginning of another. If you think that you can go on with the same old life and come up with something different than what you have now then your debt is here to stay.

Your spending habits, your way of looking at money and debt, and your entire life has likely contributed to the formation of your financial picture. It is not often that people run out and create all their financial woes in one night. Instead, they make choices, little ones, day after day. They spend a few dollars on something cute over here and a few dollars more than they should on something convenient over there.

Before you know it, designer coffees, restaurant dinners, and too much shopping has taken you somewhere you don’t want to be. You have been marching toward this place for some time but you never looked to see where you were going. You were too busy looking at all the fun things money could buy you instead of asking if you had the money to pay off your credit cards this month.

What Should You Do?

You know your life needs an overhaul. Most people who are asking how to get out of debt are not asking because they want an answer. They’re asking so that they can pretend that they don’t know, so that they can put off doing the hard work that will fix everything. Admitting the problem is only the first step. The next is doing something about it.

Money problems and even large amounts of debt are not that complicated. You have to admit the truth of the situation. What you’ve been doing marched you into debt. Your every action from now on either marches you farther in or takes you a step closer to being out of debt once and for all.
